Baltacha wins Aegon Trophy title

Elena Baltacha won the Aegon Trophy ITF tournament in Nottingham on Saturday. The top seed defeated American Carly Gullickson in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, to win the ninth ITF Singles title of her career.

Gullickson, 23, is ranked 180 places below the Briton at 242. Baltacha will now move on to the Edgbaston Priory Club, where she will be competing in the Aegon Classic next week. The British number one has been seeded twelfth at the WTA International tournament.

In the men's Challenger tournament, held at the same venue, Alexander Ward lost his quarter-final match to Andre Begemann of Germany in three sets, 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-3.

Ward qualified for the main draw, and then knocked out two players ranked over 400 places above him, including fourth seed Taylor Dent, in the last 16.

In the men's Doubles competition, top seeds Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski have reached the final after defeating the fourth seeds, Jamie Delgado and Josh Goodall, 6-3, 6-3.

Fleming and Skupski will now face the second seeds, Eric Butorac (USA) and Scott Lipsky (USA) in the final. The British duo are currently the 43rd Doubles team in the world.
