Broady through in Nottingham

British number eight Naomi Broady is through to the second round of the Aegon Trophy ITF grass court tournament in Nottingham.
Broady defeated Arina Rodionova of Russia in three sets, 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-3. Rodionova is ranked 124 places above the Briton at 157, but it was Broady who progressed to the next round.
She will now await the winner of the match between 7th seed Anne Keothavong and Valeria Savinykh of Russia.
British number five Melanie South lost her first round match to Mona Barthel of Germany. Barthel won in three sets, 3-6, 7-6(6), 6-3.
The other British player in action today, Lisa Whybourn, was defeated in straight sets by American Carly Gullickson, 6-1, 6-1. Whybourn received a wild card into the main draw.
Top seed Elena Baltacha will play the British number four, Naomi Cavaday tomorrow.
