Cavaday loses to top seed

Naomi Cavaday lost her first round match to the top seed, Kristina Barrois, at the 50,000 dollar tournament in Biberach, Germany. Barrois, playing in her home country, won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

The 30 year old German player is ranked 125 places above the British number four, at 74 in the world.

At the 10,000 dollar ITF tournament in Madrid, fifth seed Amanda Carreras beat qualifier Martina Kubicikova of the Czech Republic in her first round match. The 20 year old, originally from Gibraltar, won in straight sets at the clay-court event, 6-1, 6-3.

Carreras has won two ITF Singles titles in her career so far, both on her favourite surface, clay.
