Fleming and Skupski win St. Petersburg title
Sunday, 01 November 2009
Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski won their second ATP Tour Doubles title at the St. Petersburg Open, Russia on Sunday. They defeated Frenchmen Jeremy Chardy and Richard Gasquet in the final.
The British duo lost the first set by six games to two, but rallied, winning the second 7-5. This meant that the title would be decided on a Match Tie-break, which they won by ten points to four.
As well as their two title wins on the main tour, Fleming and Skupski have won three ATP Challenger titles and two Futures titles this year. They also knocked out Bob and Mike Bryan at the Aegon Championships, Queen's Club, in June, to reach the quarter-finals.
Fleming joined Skupski in the top hundred, after the pair won their first ATP Tour title in Metz, France, in September. Since then, their rankings have continued to climb steadily, helped by the win last week at the Challenger event in Orleans, France.
Fleming and Skupski were ranked 67 and 66 in the world respectively for Doubles going into this week, and will now climb further up the rankings following today's win.
