Keothavong defeated in Monzon

British number three Anne Keothavong suffered defeat at the quarter-final stage of the 75,000 dollar ITF tournament in Monzon, Spain, on Thursday.
Keothavong, from Hackney, lost to the eighth seed, Maria-Elena Camerin from Italy in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. The 28 year old Italian is currently ranked nineteen places above the Briton at 105 in the world.
At the 25,000 dollar ITF clay-court tournament in Pelham, USA, Heather Watson and American Julie Ditty are through to the quarter-finals of the Doubles event.
They defeated the second seeds, Tatiana Poutchek (Belarus) and Ipek Senoglu (Turkey) on a match tie-break, winning 7-5, 0-6 (10-4).
Ditty has a Doubles ranking of 92 in the world, and Watson, 453. Their opponents in the next round will be the American pairing of Julia Cohen and Alison Riske.
