Murray defeated by Nadal

Rafael Nadal ended British hopes in the men's Singles competition, defeating home favourite Andy Murray in straight sets on Friday.

Nadal, the second seed, claimed victory in two hours, twenty-two minutes on Centre Court, 6-4, 7-6(8-6), 6-4. The world number one is bidding to win an eighth grand slam title, and a second Wimbledon Singles crown, following his win at SW19 in 2008.

The Spaniard will now face 12th seed Tomas Berdych in Sunday's final. Berdych overcame third seed Novak Djokovic in three sets, 6-3, 7-6(11-9), 6-3.

In the semifinals of the Girls' and Boys' Singles, Laura Robson and Oliver Golding both suffered defeats. Robson, the eighth seed, was beaten by 10th seed Sachie Ishizu of Japan in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6(5).

Golding, the number one British junior, was defeated by Australian Benjamin Mitchell, 6-2, 6-2.

In the Boys' Doubles competition, two British pairings have reached the semifinal stage. Lewis Burton and George Morgan will now face the fifth seeds, Peter Heller (Germany) and Kevin Krawietz (Germany).

In the second semifinal, Liam Broady and Tom Farquharson will play the Russian duo of Mikhail Biryukov and Alexander Rumyantsev.
