Watson and Broady bow out

Heather Watson and Naomi Broady both lost their quarter-final matches at the 25,000 dollar ITF tournament in Hammond, USA.
Seventeen year old Watson, who is originally from Guernsey, but trains at the Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida, lost to the third seed Shuai Zhang of China, 7-5, 6-2.
Zhang is ranked 339 places above the 2009 US Open Girls' Singles Champion, at 145 in the world.
In the first round proper, Watson knocked out the former world number seven, Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic, and then defeated the fifth seed, Monique Adamczak of Australia in the last 16.
British number seven Naomi Broady lost to fellow qualifier Jamie Hampton of the United States in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Going into the match, Broady was ranked 187 places above her opponent at 296, but it was the American player who progressed to the semifinals.
